Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Animal Rescue Center? What services does it provide?
Animal Rescue Center is a 501c3 non-profit agency founded by Jennifer Gilson, Executive Director of Sonora Veterinary Hospital. Jennifer was moved by the suffering she witnessed at the county animal control facilities. She began Animal Rescue Center initially to help injured stray animals at Animal Care & Control that would otherwise have had no hope of rehabilitation. That vision soon expanded to include all kinds of dogs and cats in need and to the creation of the Animal Rescue Center's Spay/Neuter program designed to stop over-population before it starts.
How long do animals stay at the Center?
Until a life-long loving home is found. Animal Rescue Center is an adoption guarantee agency.
Where do the animals in the center come from?
Animal Rescue Center takes in homeless pets from Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, The Arizona Humane Society, and from the public.
Can the Center take my pet?
Animal Rescue Center helps as many pets as space and resources will allow. Please contact us for more information. 602-867-9720.
What should I do if I find a dog or cat?
Animal Rescue Center does not accept stray animals unless they are injured. All stray animals should be taken to your local Animal Care & Control so that their owners have an opportunity to find them.
What about wildlife?
Animal Rescue Center does not accept wildlife, but can direct you to the appropriate agency. Please contact us if you have found injured or ill wildlife. 602-867-9720.
Does Animal Rescue Center help injured dogs and cats?
Yes. It is our mission to help injured animals. However, space and resources limit the number of animals that we can help. If you would like to donate funds to help injured animals, please visit our Donation page.
How about injured wildlife?

Does Animal Rescue Center help people with a feral cat problem?
Animal Rescue Center supports the efforts of Trap, Neuter, Return programs by providing affordable spay/neuter services to anyone caring for feral cats. We are unable to trap cats for you and we do not accept feral cats into our adoption program.
Where can I see pets available for adoption?
Animal Rescue Center has daily adoptions at a PetsMart store near you. Call for exact locations. You also can make an appointment to see pets at our Center. 602-867-9720
How do I go about adopting a pet from Animal Rescue Center?
Complete an Adoption Application, and a volunteer will get in touch with you.
What does Animal Rescue Center's adoption fee include?
Animal Rescue Center is committed to finding life-long homes for its pets. To this end, we do our best to ensure the health of each and every pet we place. Each cat or kitten is tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus if age appropriate, is vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Each dog is tested for heartworm, is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and is microchipped prior to adoption.
